BEARINGS, BRAKES & SUSPENSION
Essential maintenance for every caravan, camper or trailer
“You may neglect your spouse (not recommended), but NEVER neglect your bearings and brakes. Good maintenance is essential to a safe and happy wife (I mean life) on the road” Brad Mains, Head Tamperer.
In all seriousness, regular maintenance of bearings, brakes and suspension really is ESSENTIAL for safety and longevity of your van.
I am always a big supporter of DIY girls and guys out there. But unless you really know what you're checking for, this is one important job best left to the pro’s.
While the wheels are off we clean, inspect & adjust the brakes, inspect & grease the suspension and check all tyres for safety and use by dates.
How often? Well it really depends on use. The standard bearing recommendation is every 12 months or 10,000km but don’t leave it until then if there are any tell tale signs of wear or damage.
This is one neglected trailer, be sure to take better care of yours.
THE TAMPERER’S TIP!
FEELING THE HEAT?
When you are out on the road, stop for a break and give your hubs a quick feel.
If they are too hot to handle, look wet or if they’ve been moaning and groaning all the way, pull over and give me a call for advice.
Take care out there.
